Elías Heim
Réplica es una obra performática del artista colombiano Elías Heim que consistió en romper la vitrina de Lugar a Dudas, espacio ubicado en el barrio judío de Cali y que sigue alojando la sinagoga. La ruptura se produce la noche del 9 de Noviembre, la misma fecha en que sucedió la llamada Kristallnacht o La noche de los Cristales en 1938 en Alemania, donde las sinagogas y negocios de familias judías fueron atacados en un acto de racismo.
Recurriendo a la memoria esta obra busca evidenciar esa herida, tanto del pasado como del futuro, señalando la continua pulsión de olvidar y de resanar el hecho violento como una necesidad para sobrevivir y como estrategia para curar un trauma, lanzándonos la pregunta: ¿qué sucede el día después de la tragedia? Seguir haciendo como si nada hubiera ocurrido, o bien, prevenir para que la tragedia no vuelva a suceder.
Réplica is a performative work by Colombian artist Elías Heim that consisted of breaking the display case of Lugar a Dudas, a space located in the Jewish quarter of Cali that still houses the synagogue. The breakage took place on the night of November 9, the same date on which the so-called Kristallnacht or The Night of the Crystals took place in 1938 in Germany, where in an act of racism synagogues and businesses owned by Jewish families were attacked.
By resorting to memory, this work seeks to highlight this wound of both the past and the future, pointing out the continuous impulse to forget and to heal the violent event as a necessity for survival and as a strategy to cure a trauma, thus launching a question: what happens the day after the tragedy? To continue doing as if nothing had happened or to prevent the tragedy from happening again.
